PUDUKOTTAI: A decision on creation of a separate directorate for higher secondary education will be taken based on the suggestions from the one-man commission headed by a former Director of School Education, School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu said on Thursday.
The report is expected soon, the Minister told The Hindu. The commission is in the process of finalising the report. While the demand was long pending, there were certain “ifs and buts,” he said responding to a question whether the demand was reasonable.
To a query on the dismay expressed by self-financing schools over not being given time to respond to the State government's plan of action to implement the Right to Education Act, the Minister said implementation of the Act was a lengthy process. A State Child Rights Protection Council would be formed. It would be followed by formation of various committees, including one to protect the educational rights of children. Accompanied by Director of School Education P. Perumalsamy, the Minister earlier chaired a zonal-level review meeting to assess the performance of Chief Educational Officers and District Educational Officers of six districts.
